Passive House Institute

The Passive House Institute is an independent research institute that has played an especially crucial role in the development of the Passive House concept.  Drop by our stand to learn more about global activities such as the 2017 International Passivhaus Conference and the latest developments in the designPH & PHPP software.

The Passive House Institute has assumed a leading position with regard to research on and development of construction concepts, building components, planning tools (PHPP and designPH) and quality assurance for especially energy efficient buildings. Furthermore, it provides certification and consultancy services and training to become Certified Passive House Designers, Consultants and Tradespersons.

Passive House stands for healthy, comfortable living and impressive energy efficiency, regardless of the regional climate. Within the last several years, Passive House has gained rapidly in popularity, with over 65,000 residential and non-residential units in existence worldwide, both new builds and retrofits.

The first pilot project (Kranichstein Passive House, Darmstadt, Germany, 1990) was Europe’s first inhabited multi-family house to achieve a documented heating energy consumption of below 12 kWh/(m²a), a consumption level confirmed through years of detailed monitoring.
