Since joining Hamson Barron Smith (HBS) in 2014 Sarah has been project architect and Passivhaus consultant on a number of innovative and multi-award winning projects. Delivering and working on some of the UKs largest Passivhaus developments. While at HBS she has developed an office wide approach to Soft Landings, acknowledging the importance of data in enabling decision-making during the design process.
2020 has been the year of EnerPHits, with Sarah Lewis completing an EnerPHit of her own home and leading the team delivering an EnerPHit of St Sophia’s Primary School for East Ayrshire Council. Sarah has many accolades in recognition of her contributions to UK low energy architecture; including the 2018 European Sustainability and Environmental Women of the Year and Constructing Excellence Achiever of the Year, 2015. In 2013, she was listed by the AJ as one of the Top 20 Women leading the way in sustainable architecture in the UK. She regularly lectures on the evolving Zero Carbon Standards and speaks at conferences including International Passivhaus Conferences. As well as lecturing at a number of architecture schools, she has participated in AJ Industry Roundtable debates and was part of the 2015 international judging panel for MIT’s Buildings contest. 2017 saw the publication of a second edition of her bestselling RIBA book, PHPP Illustrated, written for all architects hoping to design to the Passivhaus standard.
